Introduction
Hello everyone!
My name's Steve Nellis and I live in Macomb, Michigan. I'm a French teacher at Henry Ford II High School and Bemis Junior High School in Sterling Heights Michigan. I'm currently teaching French I and French III. I have 9th to 12th graders all mixed in throughout my classes and at the junior high I have all 8th graders.
I earned my BA in French Language and Literature at Oakland University and my teaching certificate through Saginaw Valley State University.
My only concern with this course is just having a general sense of trying to balance everything going on, teaching, assignments, coaching, and attempting to have a semblance of a social life.
I think I have an above average grasp with technology but I'm learning new and exciting things all the time, which is great!! But it can also be over whelming.
I'm looking forward to learning many new and awesome things in this class!
Steve

Dear Steve,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your statement about trying to balance this class with other things going on in our lives. It can be very overwhelming. You stated that you coach. I was wondering what you coach? I also think it is very interesting that you teach a foreign language. I took Spanish for 3 years and I can only say a few different phrases unless I want to look completely foolish. How long have you been teaching? Have you always taught at the same school?
Sincerely,
Christopher Walker
Hi Christopher,
DeleteI coach boy and girls varsity tennis. This is going to be my 7th season this spring. I've been teaching at Ford for 5 years, 4 full time. It's been the only place I've taught. Yea, with a foreign language if you don't use it, you lose it, lol.
Hi Steve -
ReplyDeleteHonest ... the class balances fairly well. I promise. Ich spreche Deutsch, ein Bisschen, aber nicht Francious. :) I think I may have spelled that very incorrectly...but I think you get the idea. Welcome to the class.
Jen
Hi Steve! I also coach.. among other things! I have the same struggle, but we can do it! :) Looking forward to learning together!
ReplyDeleteSteve, I agree with you 100%! Balancing teaching and a social life is incredibly hard (thats what she said). I hope you find peace with your life as you continue to teach French and punishing kids who ride a skateboard down the hallway during a Tennis meeting. I also agree with the fact with you having a decent grasp with technology, from what I have seen being in your class was a wonderful thing. With the amazing France photos (the powerpoint was fantastic btw). I really really really hope you continue to understand and improve your teaching ability and teach more kids Spanish.
ReplyDeleteBeing a Tennis coach and teaching must be incredibly difficult to perform. Being able to properly grade assignments and coach a boys and girls tennis team must be an adventure for sure. If I were you I would never have time to play video games (assassins creed especially).
Just reading this post fills me with much satisfaction and glee!
May you ever find peace on your path:
